Be sure to talk to a physician about any prescription drugs, what their effect is on the liver and if there are any alternatives that might not be as taxing on the liver.</p>
<p>Drink plenty of water, but do not overdo it. Water needs to be balanced with salt, and while a lack of salt is usually not a problem in the American diet, it is important to make sure that the body has enough to work properly.</p>
<p>Avoid artificial sweeteners and sugar. Artificial sweeteners are toxic to the liver and must be filtered by the body.  Sugar increases the likelihood of being overweight and being overweight taxes the body including the liver. If you must use a sweetener, try honey, agave nectar and molasses. These are good alternatives because they can provide more than refined sugar can.  If you need something sweet, try a fresh or sun-dried fruit.</p>

<p>Acute liver failure may be caused by an overdose of acetaminophen (most commonly found in Tylenol and used as a pain reliever), ingestion of poisonous mushrooms, viruses like Hepatitis and reactions to medications either prescription or herbal. <p>Liver failure can be caused by acute, also called short-term, liver damage or chronic liver damage that takes place over the course of time. Acute damage is usually related to a drug overdose like that which can be caused by acetaminophen, or by diseases like Hepatitis A, B and C. </p>
<p>Chronic liver failure can be caused by long-term consumption of alcohol, any of the hepatitis viruses or the ingestion of poisonous mushrooms. This list is not exhaustive of things that contribute to liver damage. It just contains some of the most common.</p>

Women tend to deny that they have the symptoms and may avoid seeking help because they do not want to be a bother to anyone, but liver damage can be reversed if treated in time.
